Welcome!

We welcome you to Færøy! A picturesque island located in the Solund municipality with only 15 inhabitants. This is an environment with peace and quiet, spectacular nature and no cars allowed.

As your host we will provide you with all the amenities to ensure a pleasant stay on our island. In addition to nature experiences, fishing, visiting farms and boat trips, we provide you with beverages and excellent, homemade food in our restaurant. We use fresh, local produce and base our menu on the traditions of West Norway. However, you can also choose a steak or pizza from our a la carte menu or be tempted by the scents from our bakery. If you are interested in more information on the facilities and experiences of Færøy, please use the links on this page. We are looking forward to seeing you this summer!

The guest harbor

The Bay of Vassdalen is an isolated harbor that traditionally was used to transport school children from the surrounding island. This was before there was a road to Henja on the west side. The Bay of Vassdal also served as a shipping dock from the ships arriving from Bergen.

Today you will find a floating dock with all facilities that can accommodate 15-20 boats. The restaurant and bakery in the old school building also has bathroom facilities such as showers and toilets. Both washing machine and tumble dryer is available for you to do laundry. By the bay itself, there is the perfect area for barbeque and swimming. The playground is situated across from the restaurant. Since there are no cars on the island, this is a perfect place to bring children. On the adjoining island of Buskøy, there are fuel pumps and a grocery store.

All boaters are welcome to tie-up at the docks as before and the toilet, shower and laundry room will be open from midsummer (last week in June).

GPS positioning: N61°12,220’ E4°50,590’

Vassdalen and Færøy feriesenter is located on the southeast side of Færøy, northernmost in Solund municipality. Arriving by boat is safe from the south side if you approach from the west side of Ingerskjeret. In the Bay of Vassdalen you pass the post on the east side to arrive in the guest harbor.

Activities

Primarily, tourists visit us to experience peace and quiet in the clean sea air. However, there are also activities available for those looking for something more:

The North Sea Trail is a marked up hiking trail that starts on Henja on the Westside of the island. It follows the path northward, and continues into the woodland past Færøy feriesenter. Although good footwear is important, this is an easy trail for everyone. Map and information about the trail and the surrounding area is available in the shed by Henja and in the restaurant at the Færøy feriesenter. You can also download the map here

Bakkane farm on Færøy welcomes you to experience farm life. The farmer feeds and milks the cows every morning and night, and you will have the opportunity to taste fresh milk and feed the calves. The milk the Jersey cows at Bakkane produce is perfect for churning butter because it contains a high percentage of fat. There are very few farms that make butter in Norway nowadays, thus the Jersey cow is an uncommon breed. Home made butter can be bought at Færøy feriesenter. In addition to cows, the Bakkane farm also hosts rabbits and hens. Fresh eggs can be bought directly from the farm.

Boat Rental. If you want to sightsee the area on your own, Ferøy feriesenter offers a 14 feet “Tobiasboat” for rent. The boat fits maximum 3 passengers and has a 4 horse powered motor. Rate pr. 24 hours is NOK 250 excluding fuel.

We want to offer our guests good, traditional food made from scratch. We have a week menu in the summer that includes dinner of the day. For example, we have a popular smorgasbord where we mostly use produce from the adjoining Bakkane farm. In addition to our a la carte menu, we can make almost anything by guests request. In the weekends we arrange pub nights with live music. Locals and tourist alike join us for these gatherings. The restaurant serves beer, wine and spirits.
